Glycolic acid peels are medically endorsed as a viable alternative to other peels for the patient who wishes to avoid discomfort and/or a recovery period. Traditional chemical peels are designed to create a controlled process of skin peeling. The depth of the peel is determined by the physician in order to create the desired effect. Depending on the extent of the peel, skin normalcy can vary from a few days to two weeks. With deeper peels, healing may take longer.

Medical studies show that this cumulative result includes collagen stimulation as well as stimulation of substances called glycosaminoglycans, known to give the skin "epidermal volume", thus substantially increasing firmness and lessening the appearance of deeper lines.
